USATF Names Tar Heels To Rosters For Three International Events

USA Track & Field has named a trio of University of North Carolina track and field figures to its rosters for international events this summer.
Freshman Blaise Atkinson earned spots on the USATF rosters for both the NACAC U23 Championships and the Pan American U20 Championships, the organizing body announced this week. Atkinson, who completed a stellar freshman season as a Tar Heel in 2023, is part of the 4x100 relay pool for the NACAC U23 Championships and will compete in the 110m hurdles at the U20 Pan American Games.
Tar Heel alumna Jill Shippee will compete for the USA in the hammer throw at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in August.
And UNC Associate Director of Track & Field/Assistant to the Athletic Director Jess Riden will be the head women's manager at the Pan-Am U20 games.
USATF named more than 140 of the top U23 and U20 track and field athletes in the United States to don the red, white, and blue for the NACAC U23 Championships and the Pan American U20 Championships. Rosters for the two teams include athletes who earned selection with their performances at the Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships and USATF U20 Championships, held July 6-9 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

The NACAC U23 Championships are scheduled for July 21-23 at the National Stadium in San José, Costa Rica, while the Pan American U20 Championships will be hosted August 4-6 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
