Volleyball Falls To Michigan In Three

ANN ARBOR, MI. – The Carolina volleyball team (4-2) fell in three sets to Michigan (2-4) on Friday night in Crisler Arena in their first road loss of the season.
The Tar Heels struggled offensively, hitting .168 as a team compared to Michigan's .305 hitting percentage. Mabrey Shaffmaster led the offense with 12 kills, a match high, followed by Romani Thurman who tallied seven kills with a .357 hitting clip.
Carolina, a team known for its strong serving, struggled at the service line with just three aces and six service errors. Shaffmaster, Emani' Foster and Carson Overbeck each had an ace in the loss.
Defensively, Maddy May tallied 20 digs, her second match this season with over twenty digs, and just two digs shy of her career-best. Despite the Tar Heels being outblocked 11-5, Kaya Merkler led the team with four total blocks, three block assists and a block solo.
Up next, the Tar Heels travel to East Lansing for a 1 p.m. Sunday matchup at Michigan State.
