Tar Heels Check In At No. 3 In ILWomen/IWLCA Preseason Poll
January 29, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team has been picked third in the annual ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Women's Preseason Poll and received one first-place vote, as announced by the organization Monday morning.
The Tar Heels were also slotted third in the USA Lacrosse preseason poll earlier this month.
Under the direction of head coach Jenny Levy, Carolina finished the 2023 season ranked fifth in the country. The team reached the ACC Tournament championship game for the seventh straight year and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals a season ago.
Returning to lead UNC this year are All-America selections Reilly Casey, Caroline Godine, Emily Nalls, Alecia Nicholas, Alyssa Long, Brooklyn Walker-Welch, Marissa White and Caitlyn Wurzburger. All eight players who earned an All-America nod in 2023 have returned for another season in Chapel Hill.
The Tar Heels have also welcomed talented newcomers who have been ranked the No. 1 freshman class in the country by Inside Lacrosse. Headlining the first-year group is No. 1 Chloe Humphrey and No. 4 Betty Nelson, marking UNC as the only school with two rookies in the top five.
North Carolina begins the 2024 campaign on Feb. 10 at James Madison before the home opener on Feb. 13 against Liberty. The complete schedule can be found here.
