Trimble Leads Blue Team To 63-53 Win In Blue-White Game

 CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Junior Seth Trimble led the way with 19 points and an impressive dunk as the Blue team beat the White team, 63-53, on Saturday afternoon in the Tar Heels' Blue-White scrimmage at the Smith Center.

Trimble had a game-high eight field goals on a game-high 15 attempts, hitting a three-pointer and adding five rebounds and three assists. His athletic dunk over a defender came on an aggressive drive into the lane in the second half.

With a number of its 42 points in the paint manufactured by sophomore Elliot Cadeau's ability to drive and dish, the Blue squad shot 54.5 percent in the first half, 56.0 percent in the second and 55.3 percent overall. Cadeau shot 5 for 9 and finished with 12 points and a game-high four assists.

Junior transfer Cade Tyson chipped in 13 points on 6 of 11 shooting for the Blues, missing all three of his three-point attempts but contributing four boards and two assists. Fellow junior transfer Ven-Allen Lubin tallied 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.

For the White team, junior forward Jalen Washington led the way with 11 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Ian Jackson missed 10 of 14 shots but hit two three-pointers and scored 10 points. Freshman Drake Powell hit 4 of 8 shots for eight points.

In the opening seconds of the second, 12-minute half, the Smith Center crowd got a scare when RJ Davis crashed to the ground after a collision in the lane. Davis stayed on the floor for a few, quiet minutes before easing to the bench with the assistance of athletic trainer Doug Halverson.

Davis suffered a lower back contusion in the fall and finished with nine points on 2 of 6 shooting from the floor in 11 minutes of action for the White team.

The Blue team outscored the White squad, 34-23, in the second half while holding the Whites to 37.5 percent shooting after halftime.

The Tar Heels will return to action at Memphis in the Hoops for St. Jude Tip Off Classic, an exhibition game to benefit the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. ESPNU will televise the game on Tuesday night.

Carolina also will host Johnson C. Smith in the Smith Center on Sunday October 27 in its final exhibition tune-up prior to the November 4 season opener against Elon.
