U.S. Will Play For FIFA U17 World Cup Bronze Medal
October 30, 2024 | Women's Soccer
SANTIAGO DE LOS CABALLEROS, Dominican Republic – The United States Under-17 Women's Youth National Team will play in the bronze medal match at the 2024 FIFA U17 World Cup after falling to Korea DPR, 1-0, in Wednesday's semifinal at the Estadio Cibao FC in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.
North Carolina freshman defender Trinity Armstrong is currently representing Team USA at the FIFA U17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic. The tournament runs from Oct. 16-Nov. 3.Â
Having advanced to the third-place match, the U.S. has guaranteed its best result since its runner-up finish 16 years ago in the inaugural U17 World Cup.Â
The stars and stripes went 2-1 in stage play to finish second in Group B standings with six points behind two-time defending U17 champion Spain. They advanced to the quarterfinals for the third time in six FIFA U17 World Cup appearances, ultimately beating Nigeria 2-0. The USA then reached the semifinals for the second time in event history, and for the first time since the inaugural tournament in 2008.
Starting at center back, Armstrong has played every minute of all five contests. She has helped Team USA secure three shutouts so far.
The 17-year-old Armstrong is one of four college players on the U.S. roster, and she now has nine international caps already on her resume. She was the only current college player in the starting XI against Spain in the World Cup opener.
Team USA will take on England in the bronze medal match on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 1:30 p.m. ET at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo.
All matches of the 2024 FIFA U17 World Cup will be broadcast in English on the FOX Sports family of networks and online on FoxSports.com with corresponding authentication in Spanish on the Telemundo networks.

Enrolling in college a year early, Armstrong quickly became an anchor on Carolina's back line. She helped limit opponents to 6.5 shots per game and 2.7 shots on goal per game – in addition to being instrumental in seven shutouts on the season – before leaving for national team duties on Oct. 6.Â
The Frisco, Texas native started the first 13 matches of the season. She was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24, becoming the first freshman to win the award this season. She was also ranked No. 4 on Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 Freshmen list.
