November 25, 2024 | Women's Basketball
PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Facing off against Indiana in the 2024 Battle4Atlantis championship game, No. 16 North Carolina surged past the Hoosiers in a 69-39 dominant win. The Tar Heels drained a season-high 11 three-pointers and held their second-straight opponent under 40 points.
An all-out team effort from Carolina (6-1) to topple Indiana (4-3), gave it a fourth multi-team event title in the past six seasons. Heating up from deep in Imperial Arena, the Tar Heels went 11-of-23 from beyond the arc led by Trayanna Crisp with a career-high five triples.
Crisp finished her day with UNC personal-best of 15 points, with Indya Nivar joining her in double-digits with 15 as well. Nivar's defensive presence remains strong for the Tar Heels, as she snagged five rebounds and three steals.
Named as the tournament's most valuable player, Alyssa Ustby remains on a tear as she grabbed double-digit rebounds for the third consecutive game. She dished out a season-high five assists and tallied nine points. As a team, nine Tar Heels found their way to the bucket.
Despite Indiana coming out with a 5-0 run, Carolina's defense kicked into gear once again and locked down the Hoosiers for most of the first quarter. Trading baskets back and forth, UNC held a narrow 11-10 lead through one.
Tied at 19 all with under five minutes remaining in the second quarter, a 7-0 Carolina run sparked the Tar Heels to take off and assert themselves. Back-to-back three's from Reniya Kelly and Crisp provided the Tar Heels a 6-point cushion at the break.
The Tar Heels remained clicking with another quick run to begin the quarter and build a double-figure lead over the Hoosiers. Running ahead by as many as 19, Crisp drained another triple to create a 21 point advantage at 54-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Pounding the paint throughout the final 10 minutes, Carolina pushed the Hoosiers out of the way to go on and claim the 2024 Battle4Atlantis title with a 69-39 win.
The Tar Heels return home to Chapel Hill to host NC Central on Nov. 29 in a Black Friday matinee. Catch UNC take on the Eagles from Carmichael Arena at 2 p.m. ET, on ACCNX.
