No. 18 Men's Lacrosse Clips Mercer In Season Opener

ATLANTA, GA. – The No. 18 North Carolina men's lacrosse team (1-0) defeated Mercer in neutral site action, 13-5, Saturday afternoon as part of the 2024 Atlanta Lacrosse Invitational. Â

How It Happened
• The programs traded goals back-and-forth in the first quarter, with Carolina holding a 3-2 edge with scores courtesy of Paul Barton, Logan McGovern and Johnny Schwarz.
• After Mercer opened the second quarter scoring a minute in, the Tar Heels responded with back-to-back goals from Andrew Tyeryar and Ryan Levy, taking a 5-3 lead into halftime.
• Carolina's defense remained strong in the second half, allowing just two goals in the final 30 minutes.
• The Tar Heels outscored the Bears 8-2 in the second half.
• Dewey Egan and Logan McGovern each scored two second half goals, with James Matan, Dominic Pietramala, Tyeryar and Levy finding the back of the net once.

• McGovern paced the Carolina offense with seven points (three goals, four assists).
• Egan, Levy and Tyeryar hit the back of the net twice each.
• Tyeryar (9-11), Brady Wambach (7-9) and George Kalos (1-1) helped the Tar Heels win the faceoff battle.
• Goalkeeper Collin Krieg stopped 13 shots on the day, including eight first half saves.
