Third Quarter Sparks Men’s Lacrosse Over Fairfield

NORTH BETHESDA, MD. – Seven-straight goals in the third quarter propelled the North Carolina men's lacrosse team (2-0) over Fairfield, 19-8, Saturday at Georgetown Prep in Maryland.
How It Happened
• All seven of the first quarter goals were scored in the opening seven minutes, including three consecutive for Carolina.
• Leading 4-3 entering the second quarter, the Tar Heels scored all five of the period's goals, entering the half ahead, 9-3.
• Farfield's Will Consoli opened the second half finding the back of the net, however the Tar Heels responded on a 7-0 spurt to end the quarter.
• The Stags outscored the Tar Heels by one in the fourth, 4-3, with all three Carolina scores courtesy of Dominic Pietramala.
Tar Heel Performances
• The duo of Pietramala (five goals, two assists) and Owen Duffy (three goals, four assists) paced the Carolina offense.
• Ten different Tar Heels found the back of the net on the day.
• Goalkeeper Collin Krieg stopped eight shots on the day, adding eight groundballs as well.
• Brady Wambach (14-17), Andrew Tyeryar (4-12) and George Kalos (1-2) combined to win the faceoff battle.

• The Tar Heels are 7-0 all-time against Fairfield.
• Carolina starts 2-0 for the 11th-straight season.
• Under head coach Joe Breschi, Carolina is 93-13 when allowing nine-or-fewer goals.
• Logan McGovern found the back of the net for the 16th-straight game, also recording a point for the 49th time in his career.
