Ingrilli’s OT Golden Goal Pushes Women’s Lacrosse Past Virginia, 10-9

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Freshman Eva Ingrilli netted the golden goal in the first overtime period to secure a 10-9 win for the eighth-ranked University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team over No. 15 Virginia on Friday night in Charlottesville, Virginia, at Klöckner Stadium.
Following the overtime victory, the Tar Heels improve to 3-1 on the year and begin Atlantic Coast Conference action at 1-0. The Cavaliers drop to 3-1 (0-1 ACC).

How It Happened
- Ashley Humphrey netted the opening goal before the Cavaliers responded in what proved to be a tightly-contested game.
- A six-minute scoreless stretch was broken when Humphrey fed Ingrilli to give the Tar Heels a narrow 2-1 lead after 15 minutes.
- Capitalizing on a defensive error, Caitlyn Wurzburger made it 3-1 early in the second before tacking on another one 90 seconds later.
- UVA began to close the gap with a 4-2 goal advantage in the last 10 minutes of the half, but UNC held on for a slight 6-5 lead at the break.
- A few big defensive stops and three saves from Alecia Nicholas kept the score at a standstill during the early part of the second half.
- GraceAnn Leonard cashed in on a free-position opportunity to put UNC back up by two at the six minute mark, but a pair from UVA tied the game at 7-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
- The first two goals of the second quarter belonged to Olivia Dirks to give the Tar Heels a two-goal advantage just past the halfway point of the final frame.
- A back-and-forth battle, Virginia evened things up again at 9-9 with 26 seconds left at the end of regulation, sending Carolina into its second overtime game of the season.
- Ingrilli scored the overtime winner with 1:28 remaining in the extra frame. Holding off three defenders, Alyssa Long sent a pass to Ingrilli who used a quick finish to find the back of the net.
- Ingrilli's golden goal was her third of the game, marking her third hat trick in four games.

- Ingrilli had three goals while Dirks, Humphrey and Wurzburger all had two. Humphrey had a team-high four points.
- Carolina had a 15-8 advantage on the draw with Emily Nalls having a game-high-tying four.
- Nalls and Darcy Felter both had two caused turnovers to lead the team.
- An even matchup throughout, UNC had 26 shots to UVA's 24 while the home team had a 15-14 edge in shots on goal.
