Gymnastics Heads To LSU For Regular Season Finale

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina gymnastics will compete for the final time during the 2024 regular season on Friday night, as the team travels to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to take on second-ranked LSU. Â
Competition will begin at 8:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. CT) at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The meet will air on SEC Network+ with Kaleigh Dickson-Abboud and Lyn Rollins on call.

Ten Things to Know
- 2024 marks UNC's first season in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The ACC previously sponsored a conference championship for gymnastics in 1984.
- Heading into Week 11, Lali Dekanoidze's average vault score of 9.842 leads the ACC and ranks eighth in the Southeast Region. Her NQS of 9.855 on vault and 9.885 on bars both rank third in the ACC, with bars ranking seventh in the region.Â
- Isabelle Schaefer has matched her career-high 9.925 on bars four times this year. Her NQS of 9.89 ranks second in the ACC and fifth in the Southeast Region.
- Dekanoidze's 9.925 on vault and 9.95 on bars, and Julia Knower's 9.925 on floor, are all tied for the second-highest scores in the ACC on their respective events.Â
- The Heels have 13 rotations of 49.0+ so far this season. Their home meet against Pitt on Feb. 16 was the first time all year where every rotation was above 49.
- Assistant coach/director of operations, Sami Durante, spent six years at LSU as a student-athlete (2018-22) and GA (2023). She was a 2021 WCGA Regular Season All-American on bars and a two-time AAI Award nominee.Â
- Kaya Forbes (Gonzales, LA) and Julia Knower (Mandeville, LA) are both from Louisiana. Ally LaNasa (Monroe, LA) was also born in Louisiana before moving to Utah.Â
- Dekanoidze earned the ACC's first-ever ACC Gymnast of the Week honor on Jan. 9 after a career-high 9.925 on vault in the season opener.
- Schaefer became UNC's first-ever ACC Specialist of the Week on Jan. 15 after matching her career-high 9.925 on bars at the ESPN Collegiate Quad.
- Camryn Rueda was named UNC's first-ever ACC Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 12 after setting a new career-high 9.875 on floor at NC State.
