Men's Lacrosse Defeats Stony Brook, Breschi Earns 250th Career Win

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – A solid defensive effort earned the 17th-ranked North Carolina men's lacrosse team (6-2) their fourth-straight victory, defeating Stony Brook 12-8.
The win for Carolina is head coach Joe Breschi's 250th career win (158 at North Carolina, 92 at Ohio State). Breschi becomes the fourth active head coach at the Division I level to eclipse 250 career victories.
How It Happened
• After falling behind 2-0, Owen Duffy scored back-to-back goals within 15 seconds to tie the matchup at two-all.
• The Seawolves answered just under five minutes later to regain the lead, however, Dominic Pietramala hit the back of the net to square the matchup at 3-3 after one.
• Carolina outscored Stony Brook 3-1 in the second quarter, with Duffy finishing the hat trick and two-straight goals courtesy of Logan McGovern, helping the Tar Heels lead 6-4 at the half.
• Out of the half, the Tar Heels scored four-straight goals, extending their lead to 10-4. With just 19 second remaining in the third, Stony Brook stopped the Carolina run with their first goal in over 27 minutes of game action.
• Stony Brook would regain momentum in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tar Heels 3-2 in the frame. Carolina's goal came from a behind-the-back goal from Matt Wrede and a man-up score courtesy of Ryan Levy.

• Duffy led all players with four goals, also dishing out an assist.
• Pietramala (hat trick) and McGovern (two goals) joined Duffy on the balanced Carolina attack.
• Andrew Tyeryar (15-19) and Brady Wambach (2-5) helped Carolina win the faceoff battle for the eighth time this year.
• Tyeryar (7), Andrew Geppert (4), Danny Striano (4) and Pietramala (3) recorded three-or-more ground balls.
• Goalkeeper Collin Krieg made 10 saves, earning the win between the pipes.

• Saturday was the third-straight game with four-or-more goals for Duffy. The freshman finishes the three-game New York trip with 13 goals and seven assists.
• Pietramala has the most multi-goal games for a freshman since 2010, when Jimmy Bitter recorded 10 games scoring two-or-more goals.
• McGovern has recorded a point in 55 career games.
• Tyeryar's 15 faceoff wins was a season best, the most since April 22, 2023 at Notre Dame (15).
