March 23, 2024 | Women's Gymnastics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Ahead of the Atlantic Coast Conference Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, the conference has announced that Lali Dekanoidze and Isabelle Schaefer have been named to the All-ACC First Team Team.
Both juniors received All-ACC praise on bars while Dekanoidze also earned the honor on vault.
With 2024 marking the inaugural season of ACC Gymnastics, Dekanoidze and Schaefer become the first two All-ACC honorees in program history.
The All-ACC Gymnastics Team features the top six gymnasts on vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise based on National Qualifying Score (NQS) following the regular season. The top two all-arounders also earned first team honors.
Dekanoidze's NQS of 9.87 on vault ranks second in the conference and her average vault score of 9.848 sits atop league standings. Her career-high 9.925 in the season opener is the third highest score in the UNC record book.
The Matthews, North Carolina native also ranks third on bars with an NQS of 9.885. Her season-high 9.95 came during the home finale and her career-high 9.975 from 2023 is the program record. Dekanoidze has won six events this season across vault and bars.
Schaefer, a native of Charlotte, boasts an NQS of 9.89 on bars to rank second in the ACC. She matched her career-high 9.925 on her signature event four times this season – which ranks third in school history – and has won three event titles.
Dekanoidze was named the first-ever ACC Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 9. A week later, Schaefer became UNC's first ACC Specialist of the Week.
The 2024 ACC Championships will be held at Greensboro Coliseum on Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET. The meet will broadcast nationally on ACC Network. More information can be found here.
