WBB Opens ACC Tournament Play Vs. Miami

GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina opens play in the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Thursday afternoon, taking on Miami at the Greensboro Coliseum. Tipoff is 1:30 p.m. and the game will air on ACC Network.

UNC (19-11) is the No. 8 seed in the field and Miami (18-11) is No. 9. The two are meeting for the 20th time overall and the second time in ACC Tournament play. Carolina holds a 16-13 edge in the series and has won both previous tournament meetings.

Thursday's winner advances to face top-seeded Virginia Tech on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

UNC is seeded eighth in the ACC Tournament field for the first time since 2021 and the seventh time in program history. Carolina is 64-36 overall in ACC Tournament play with a league-best nine titles, most recently in 2008.

The Tar Heels and Hurricanes are meeting for the 30th time in a series that dates back to the 1980-81 season. Carolina leads the series 16-13 after winning this year's meeting in Chapel Hill on Jan. 25.
• Carolina and Miami have met on just two previous occasions in ACC play, with the Tar Heels winning both:
2005: UNC, the No. 1 seed, opened tournament play in the quarterfinals with a 64-57 win over ninth-seeded Miami 64-57. The Tar Heels went on to claim the title, the first of four in a row for Carolina
2011: Sixth-seeded UNC made a run to the championship game, upsetting second-seeded Miami 83-57 in the semifinals to get there. The Tar Heels lost to Duke in the final.

Tar Heels put up impressive numbers in league play this season:
• Alyssa Ustby grabbed at least seven rebounds in all but two ACC games (she had four at Georgia Tech and six at home vs. Duke) and ranked fourth in the league with 10.0 rebounds per game in conference play. Along with her 12.4 points per game, she averaged a double-double in ACC action and is one of just four players who did so.
• Lexi Donarski was 13-29 (.448) from three-point range through the first three games of the ACC season, including six threes in UNC's conference opener against Clemson. She cooled off to go 29-93 (.312)over the other 15 games but still shot .344 from three in conference play. Her average of 2.33 makes per ACC game ranked fifth in the league.
• Deja Kelly ranked eighth in the ACC with a 1.43 assist/turnover ratio in league play and is ninth in assists per game (3.89). Ustby is 10th with 3.78 assists per game and is 14th in assist/turnover ratio (1.31).
