CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Emily Nalls, one of the best defenders in the country, has been named to the 25-player nominee list for the 2024 Tewaaraton Award, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation on Thursday afternoon. This is the second consecutive year she has been a top-25 nominee.Â
The preeminent honor in college lacrosse, the Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
Nalls found herself on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Feb. 16 for the third straight year. The field has now been narrowed to 25 nominees, with five finalists announced from this group in early May. The winner will be selected on May 30.
The graduate co-captain currently leads the Tar Heels with 25 ground balls, 21 caused turnovers and 50 draw controls on the season and has three points behind two goals and one assist. She has amassed 158 ground balls, 98 caused turnovers and 171 draw controls in her career.Â
A native of Glenwood, Maryland, she has started all 85 games in her career. Nalls garnered IWLCA First Team All-America praise in 2023 and has twice been named to both the IWLCA All-South Region First Team and All-ACC Team.Â
She also owns the program record for most ground balls in a single contest with 10 against High Point on March 23, 2022.
