Dekanoidze, Schaefer Impress At NCAA Gainesville Regional

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of North Carolina gymnasts Lali Dekanoidze and Isabelle Schaefer impressed on Friday afternoon at the 2024 NCAA Regional Championships in Gainesville, Florida, during the meet's first session.
The junior duo qualified as individuals and competed in Session I inside Exatech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on UF's campus. It was the third year in a row Dekanoidze received an individual bid while Schaefer punched her ticket for the first time in her career.
Dekanoidze competed on vault and uneven bars. The Matthews, North Carolina native earned a 9.825 on vault with her Yurchenko full. Her bars routine received a 9.9, her sixth score of 9.9+ on the event this season and the 18th in her career.
A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Schaefer made her NCAA Regional debut on the uneven bars. She tallied a score of 9.85 for her performance.
The pair had impressive junior campaigns, as both standouts were named to the All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Championship Team. Dekanoidze was crowned the ACC champion on bars (9.95) with Schaefer placing second (9.925).
On bars, Dekanoidze ranked third in the ACC and sixth in the Southeast Region with an NQS of 9.905. She ranked third in the league and 12th in the region with an NQS of 9.870 on vault. Schaefer's bars NQS of 9.910 ranked second in the conference and fifth in the region.
