POLL POSITION
North Carolina was ranked inside the top 12 in all five major polls this week, peaking at No. 8 in Baseball America. UNC was ranked No. 10 in the NCBWA poll, No. 11 in the D1 Baseball and USA Today Sports Coaches polls, and No. 12 by Perfect Game.
CLINCHING SCENARIOS
The Tar Heels can clinch their eighth ACC Coastal Division title by sweeping Louisville and having Duke and Virginia each lose a game. UNC can also win the division with a series victory, with the Blue Devils and Cavaliers losing two games and Virginia Tech losing one game.
ONE TO TIE
Honeycutt's next home run will tie the program's all-time mark of 57, held by Devy Bell (1984-87). Honeycutt has homered in three straight games. He has gone deep in four consecutive games twice in his career, once as a freshman and earlier this season, when he hit a home run in five straight games from April 13-19, tying the school record.Â
ANOTHER 20-20 CAMPAIGN
Honeycutt's next home run will also be his 20th of the season, making him the first player in school history to have a pair of 20-20 seasons. He recorded the first 20-20 season in program lore as a freshman. He would also be the first player in Division I this season to turn the trick. He currently has 26 stolen bases.Â
TOP ERA
UNC owns the lowest total ERA in the ACC at 4.13 and has the second-lowest team ERA in conference games, 4.73. Junior Shea Sprague has the league's fifth-lowest overall ERA (3.40) and the fourth-lowest (3.20) against conference opponents. Freshman Jason DeCaro ranks seventh in conference play (3.80)
HARBER HOT
Senior Parks Harber has been one of the ACC's hottest hitters in the second half of the season. He reached base in 22 consecutive games before suddenly leaving the Campbell game due to an illness. Harber is hitting .429 (36-84) with an OPS of 1.454 in the last 23 games, with 14 home runs, 34 RBIs, and 12 base-on-balls. The stretch also includes 12 multi-hit games, five four-RBI games, and four three-hit games.
HOMERIN' HEELS
UNC has hit 53 home runs during conference play, the most of any team in the league. Overall, the Tar Heels have hit 84 home runs, seventh-most in the league. Carolina is the only team in the country with two career 50-home run hitters (Honeycutt 56, Harber 51).
SPEED AND POWER
The Tar Heels are one of six NCAA Division I teams and one of two power conference teams, with over 80 home runs and 70 stolen bases. UNC has stolen 76 bases in addition to hitting 84 homers. Virginia is the only other major conference team in the category with 88 homers and 73 stolen bases. Other teams include AustIn Peay (135-71), Campbell (106-84), Merrimack (86-79) and Morehead State (108-74).
