CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina women's lacrosse standouts Alyssa Long and Emily Nalls have been selected to participate in the 2024 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Senior All-Star Game, as the IWLCA revealed the roster on Wednesday afternoon.Â
Known as one of the premier events hosted by the IWLCA, the Senior All-Star Game honors deserving players who have exhausted their lacrosse eligibility. Nominated players are selected by the committee and athletes in each division are divided into two teams: North and South.Â
Long and Nalls are part of the 21-player South All-Star lineup which will take on the North Team on Saturday, June 1, at USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland. The Division I game will commence at 10 a.m. ET at Tierney Field, followed by Division II (12:30 p.m.) and Division III (3 p.m.).
Admission for all three contests is free of charge. Games will not be streamed.
Holding down Carolina's midfield unit this past season was Long, who capped off her senior campaign with career-highs in goals (32), assists (10) and points (42). She ranked second on the team in goals and fourth in points, and she dished out the game-winning assist at Virginia in February's ACC opener.
Long recorded a career-high six goals and seven points against Virginia Tech, a performance which earned her ACC Offensive Player of the Week accolades back in April. A native of Springfield, Pennsylvania, she totaled 51 goals, 20 assists, 71 points and 72 draw controls across her 60 career appearances.
Regarded as one of the best defenders in the country and named a top-25 nominee for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award for the second year in a row, Nalls finished the 2024 season with a team-leading 28 caused turnovers and 32 ground balls. The graduate co-captain also ranked second on the roster with a career-high 60 draw controls, even adding two goals and an assist.Â
The Glenwood, Maryland native put together one of the best performances by a defender in program history. Nalls amassed 165 ground balls, 105 caused turnovers and 181 draw controls throughout her five-year career. She started all 88 games of her college career, the most among all active Division I players during the 2024 season and tied for second-most in school history.
Nalls earned All-America honors from IWLCA, ILWomen and USA Lacrosse this past season while both Long and Nalls were tabbed to the IWLCA All-South Region First Team. The duo was part of a four-person co-captain contingent for the Tar Heels this past season.Â
