CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Three North Carolina women's lacrosse players in Emily Nalls, Ashley Humphrey and Caitlyn Wurzburger have earned USA Lacrosse Division I All-America honors, as announced by the organization on Thursday ahead of the NCAA Tournament. Â
Nalls, a defender, landed on the second team while attackers Humphrey and Wurzburger garnered honorable mention recognition. This is the third consecutive year all three players have collected All-American honors from USA Lacrosse.
Named a top-25 nominee for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award for the second year in a row, Nalls currently leads the team with 30 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers, also ranking second with 56 draw controls. The graduate student has started all 87 games of her college career, the most among all active Division I players.Â
Pacing the Tar Heels' offense is Humphrey, who has a team-leading 38 assists and 57 points in her first year at UNC as a graduate transfer. She has recorded at least two points in all but a pair of contests this year, highlighted by a season-high eight (two goals, six assists) against High Point in February.
Joining Humphrey on the attack is Wurzburger, a senior who ranks second on the team with 48 points behind 27 goals and 21 assists. She is on a 43-game streak of recording at least one point, and her 115 career assists rank fourth in Carolina laurels while her 249 career points sit in fifth.
Additionally, Nalls and Wurzburger earned All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Second Team honors, respectively, last month.
The Tar Heels begin the quest for their fourth national title in program history on May 10 during the first round of the NCAA Tournament. UNC will take on Florida in Charlottesville, Virginia.Â
