Women’s Lacrosse To Play Florida In NCAA Tournament First Round

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina begins the quest for its fourth national title in program history, as the 2024 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament gets underway on Friday, May 10. The Tar Heels will take on Florida in a neutral site first-round game in Charlottesville, Virginia.
First draw is set for 6 p.m. ET at Klöckner Stadium and the game will air on ESPN+ with Corey Spector on call. The complete tournament bracket can be found here.
UNC is making its 19th straight – and 25th overall – NCAA Tournament appearance. The Tar Heels are 42-21 all-time in NCAA Tournament games and head coach Jenny Levy's 42 NCAA wins are tied for the second-most in women's lacrosse history.

NCAA Tournament Tidbits
In the NCAA Tournament, the Tar Heels…
This will be the 17th meeting all-time between Carolina and Florida. The Tar Heels lead the series at 13-3. UNC has won eight of the last 10, including the last six.
UNC is 2-0 against the Gators in the NCAA Tournament, both in the second round. Carolina had an 11-6 win in 2015 before a 15-11 victory in 2019. The Tar Heels reached the national title game and semifinals, respectively, those seasons.
In the Last Meeting
UNC last faced UF on Feb. 17, 2024, in Chapel Hill for a 19-10 win. After entering halftime tied at 8-8, the Tar Heels limited the Gators to just one goal in each of the last two quarters, scoring seven of their own in the fourth.
Eleven Tar Heels recorded at least one point in that contest with Alyssa Long, Kiley Mottice and Caitlyn Wurzburger getting hat tricks. Goalie Alecia Nicholas made seven saves. UNC out-shot UF, 37-21, including 21-7 in the second half.
Last Time Out
This will be Carolina's first game since a close 13-12 loss to Virginia in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals on April 24. Kiley Mottice had a team-high three goals during that game in Charlotte while Bailey Horne registered a career-high nine draw controls.
Sister, Sister
Two sisters will go head-to-head on Saturday: UNC's Gabi Hall and Florida's Maggi Hall. Gabi is a sixth-year defender while her younger sister is a senior attacker. This will be the fourth game the pair has played against each other and first during postseason, with Gabi leading the sister series at 3-0.
Midfielder Ella Cabrera's older sister, Emerson Cabrera, played for the Gators from 2019-23.
Coaching Connections
UNC head coach Levy and UF head coach Amanda O'Leary both have sons on the Carolina men's lacrosse team: Alec Levy (freshman), Ryan Levy (junior) and Ryan O'Leary (graduate).
College Town Homecoming
Returning to her college town this weekend is Levy (née Slingluff), a 1992 UVA grad who earned her degree in rhetoric and communications. She won UVA's first national title with them in 1991 and was the leading scorer during the '91 NCAA Tournament with eight goals, two assists and 10 points, including five goals in the semifinals and three in the title game.

North Carolina was ranked No. 16 in this week's ILWomen/IWLCA poll and No. 17 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine poll. The team has been ranked in the top-16 by IWLCA all season. UNC was also at No. 18 in the last NCAA RPI.
Carolina ranks second in the ACC and ninth in the country with 8.12 assists/game, as well as fourth in the ACC and ninth in the country with a .925 clearing percentage. UNC is also third in the ACC and 12th in the country with 22.38 points/game.
