Parker Wolfe & Alum Madison Wiltrout Secure Bronze At Olympic Trials Finals
July 1, 2024 | Track & Field
Parker Wolfe and UNC alum Madison Wiltrout both took home bronze on Sunday at the final day of the U.S. Olympic Trials at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Wolfe broke away from the middle of the pack right before the bell lap in the 5,000m. His third-place finish of 13:10.75 is a new school outdoor record but was short of the 13:05 Olympic standard. Across Wolfe's 17 races of 2024, he has finished in the top three in all of them, winning 10 times, finishing second six times and finishing third at the Olympic Trials .
Wiltrout, who graduated from UNC in 2023 and holds both the Tar Heel school record and the ACC record in the javelin, set a new personal best of 61.17m (200-8ft) on her second throw, surpassing her previous high but still short of the 64m Olympic standard.
Both will have to wait until the Olympic team selection on July 7 to see if they will be competing at the Olympics in a few weeks. For now, their dreams of Paris are still alive.
