David Ford Third At U.S. Amateur

David Ford, a rising senior at the University of North Carolina, birdied the final hole Tuesday at Hazeltine National Golf Club to shoot 4-under-par 68 in the second round to tie for third after 36 holes of stroke play in the 2024 U.S. Amateur.
Ford shot 67-68 for a 7-under 135, three shots off the lead. Jimmy Ellis shot a 61 in the second round to win medalist honors at 10 under par.
The top 64 players in the field of 312 advance to match play, which begins Wednesday.
Peter Fountain, a 2024 UNC senior, shot 70-72 for an even-par 142 total and is one of 14 players who will compete in a playoff Wednesday morning for the final 11 spots.
