U.S. Finishes U20 World Championship Pool Play At 4-0
August 20, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
HONG KONG – Kate Levy and Team USA finished pool play at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U20 World Championship undefeated following another emphatic 34-2 victory over Israel on Tuesday in Hong Kong.
The United States – which has out-scored its opponents 123-7 – concluded Pool A play at 4-0 and begin the playoffs as the No. 2 seed. Canada is the No. 1 seed after giving up six goals to win Pool B.
One of just two incoming college freshmen on the U.S. roster, Levy had one goal, one assist and one caused turnover against Israel. The complete box score can be found here.
Levy, a midfielder, now has six goals and five assists for 11 points across four games. The reigning USA Lacrosse National High School Player of the Year has also recorded three caused turnovers and five draw controls.
The 2024 Women's U20 World Championship is the first world championship of any kind to be held in Asia since 1997 and the first World Lacrosse event to use the new under-20 age designation for junior-level competition.
The 10-day, 20-team tournament officially started on Aug. 15 after the opening ceremonies on Aug. 14. The championship game will take place Aug. 24.
Team USA has won five of seven women's junior world championships, reclaiming the gold medal five years ago in Ontario. Three former Tar Heels in Elizabeth Hillman ('23), Brooklyn Neuman ('23) and Caitlyn Wurzburger ('24) were on the team in 2019.
The United States is ranked No. 1 in the world.
