Men’s Soccer, California Baptist Play To Scoreless Draw

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The sixth-ranked North Carolina men's soccer program (1-0-1) and California Baptist (0-0-2) battled to a scoreless 0-0 draw, Sunday evening at Dorrance Field.
How It Happened
• In the third minute, Tar Heels Martin Vician and Sam Williams forced shots on goal, halted by the Lancers' Hugo Do Rego.
• Following a Carolina foul in the 28th, California Baptist's Josh Hallenberger's free kick attempt sailed just over the bar.
• Just moments later in the 31st minute, Juan Caffaro forced a shot on goal, saved in the bottom right corner.
• Prior to the half, Caffaro's shot attempt in the 42nd was saved, entering the halftime break scoreless, 0-0.
• To open the half, midfielder Matthew Acosta's shot from outside the box was halted.
• Carolina forced shots on goal from Luke Hille, Ahmad Al-Qaq and Vician, in the 58th, 62nd and 68th, respectfully.

• Matthew Acosta, Al-Qaq Andrew Czech, Charlie Harper, Parker O'Ferral and Riley Thomas played the full 90 in the field.
• Sunday's attendance of 3,501 is the largest home crowd since Aug. 26, 2016, against Cal Poly at Fetzer Field (3,718).
• Sunday was the first ever meeting between the two programs.
• Carolina is 11-0-3 under coach Carlos Somoano in home openers.
