Nyla Brooks Touted As One Of ESPN’s Most Impactful Freshmen

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The acclaim for Nyla Brooks continues to grow as the North Carolina freshman guard was listed as the No. 6 Most Impactful Freshman by ESPN heading into the 2025-26 season.
The fifth McDonald's All-American signed in the Courtney Banghart era, Brooks enters her first season in Chapel Hill with plenty of enthusiasm surrounding the Waldorf, Md., guard's game.
Coming out of Bishop Ireton High School, Brooks picked up honors as the Gatorade Virginia Girls Basketball Player of the Year. She also earned invites to the Jordan Brand Classic and the McDonald's All-American Game. Brooks came in as the No. 13 overall prospect in the Class of 2025 by ESPN.
She joins three other freshmen in Liza Astakhova, Taliyah Henderson and Taissa Quieroz to round out Carolina's young core.
Fans have the chance to catch their first glimpse of Brooks as Carolina faces off against South Carolina in an exhibition game for The Bad Boy Mowers Series – Atlanta on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. CT. Tickets for the game from State Farm Arena remain on sale here.
