POSTGAME QUOTES
UNC 89, RADFORD 74

DEAN E. SMITH CENTER, CHAPEL HILL, N.C.
UNC Head Coach Hubert Davis
On the slow start…
"I thought [with] the rhythm, I felt like we struggled at the beginning of the game. But I don't think it was just not having Seth in the lineup. I think that contributed to it. But you know, Radford's switching defenses, you know, playing, you know, zone. Jarin [Stevenson] twisting his ankle and him going out, Caleb [Wilson] getting in foul trouble. And so it caused us to play some different lineups that either one we hadn't played thus far, or two haven't played extended minutes."
On Jarin Stevenson's aggressiveness following his first-half injury…
"I didn't know if he was coming back, but I thought he was the most aggressive he was thus far. And, one, he has the ability to do that. And, number two, is that's exactly what we need with his size. Obviously, defensively, he can do a number of different things, but on the offensive end, he scored it many different ways. I mean, it was from three, free throw line, post ups, offensive rebounds in transition, and so that's something that we're going to need for the remainder of the season."
On Luka Bogavac stepping up in Seth Trimble's absence…
"Well, I mean, obviously Luka has the ability to be able to score in many different ways. He's a four-level scorer, whether it's from three, mid-range to the basket and also can get fouled and get to the free throw line. And it's been an adjustment for him as well. It's only his third game, and so I was really proud of his effort. One of the many things that I like about Luka is he's…wanting to play with energy, effort, enthusiasm."
On building depth on the bench…
"I think it's very valuable for those guys. You know, one of the things I always say is, you know, I don't know when, where, how and the manner in which you're going to get an opportunity, but when it happens, your job and responsibility is to be ready when your number is called and it is. …We're sad that Seth is not able to play right now, but it is a wonderful opportunity for a number of guys that will get extended minutes and help us with our depth."
On Seth Trimble's leadership from the bench…
"I mean, regardless if he's in the lineup or not, Seth has always been one of our leaders on our team, and so, he's done it on the court, he's done it off the court. He was in our huddles, communicating to the guys, and it's something that he's done a really good job with this year, and has enjoyed taking that leadership role, which has been exciting to see. And so he still provides that for the team, and he will continue to do that for the remainder of the season."
Luka Bogavac
On showing defense…
"Honestly I think I could do a better job tonight about defense, I think I showed some good things, but I think I should and must play better defense."
On Seth Trimble being out…
"I mean for sure we should step up, because Seth is a really good defensive player, like I think his main quality is defense. He's a great player at both ends of the floor, so we should step up. I think we will miss him, but I think we have enough quality to continue working without him."
On getting shots going tonight and the start…
"I think from game to game I will get more comfortable for me and my team. I don't think a lot about it, I just think about my performance for the team."
Henri Veesaar
On the team's performance tonight…
"We did okay. I feel like we could have done a lot better, for sure. We didn't execute as a team, we didn't take care of the ball as much as we wanted to, our energy was a little bit flat. We got the W, but I think that was expected — we were supposed to. I think we just didn't play the level we needed to, and our energy and effort level were a little low for today's game."
On Seth [Trimble]'s absence…
"Well, obviously, having him out is hard for the team, because I feel like he's the one returner who's been the leading voice of the team. So, we all feel really bad for him… for what happened to him. And we just kind of came out flat. I'm not saying because of it; we gotta always bring our effort and energy. But I think the mood was a little bit down after what happened. We came out flat and that's on us. We gotta be better for that."
On the amount of fouls Radford made…
"They definitely mucked it up a little bit. I think we shot like, what, 49 free throws at the end of the game. I think that's the most I've ever seen the team shoot in college. So, that's a lot and we weren't making very many. We're missing free throws — I missed a lot — that's something we gotta do a better job at. But we can't let the way other people play affect us, or if there's a foul call, if there's no call. I feel like on [the] defensive end, we let the foul calls change our mood and the way we play defense. And that can't be a factor… It's a variable we can't control, and we just gotta be better and control what we can control."
On what he was feeling when Jarin [Stevenson] went down…
"It definitely was [concerning]. Just seeing him the way he was on the floor, and he seemed like he was in excruciating pain. I didn't even have the time to ask anybody what happened with everything, because I saw he was holding his ankle, and obviously, with the absence of Seth, if we were to miss another player that's a big difference. But he came back and he played amazing in the second… Even when he came back, we made the run in the first half. He's a very effective player when he comes in. He gives us a lot of length: rebounding everything, shooting, he's a good driver. So, when he's in the court, we need him there."
Jarin Stevenson
On recovering from his early-game ankle injury…
"Yeah, just tweaked it. A lot of pain at first. But yeah, Doug [Halverson] got me right. Did some exercises with him, and, you know, just recovery — trying to strengthen it, and, yeah, just go from there."
On the team's slow start…
"We just got to pick up our energy and be ready from the jump. Gotta take care of the ball again. I got hurt, so I didn't really see too much at the beginning. But yeah, take care of the ball."
On missing Seth Trimble's presence while he's out…
"Yeah, he's a big part of this team. Yeah, great leader. He's on the sideline, still leading us and cheering us on. So he's a big part of the team, but yeah, we got a lot of guys that can step up and be a big role for this team."
Kyan Evans
On Luka Bogavac stepping into a starter role after a slow start…
"He's a good player. He's put the work in. We all see it every day. We know he can make those shots."
On adjusting without Seth Trimble…
"It changes the lineups a little bit, but we practice every day with different lineups. So, I think we'll be good."
On the team's reaction to Seth Trimble's injury…
"Yeah, it was just kind of a lot of shock. We didn't really know what happened at first. We had to wait he, you know, he kind of got it looked at, and then they just told us a little later on, kind of when you guys found out… we talked in the group chat, and I think it was more of just, we told him we were praying for him and just hoping for the best."
On taking on a bigger leadership role without Seth Trimble…
"I think that my role will stay the same for the most part, just being more vocal without [Seth] out there, a leader. He's a guy we lean on. So I think everybody kind of has to step up a little bit."
