Softball Extends Winning Streak To Five With Wins Against Princeton & George Mason

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Carolina softball (8-2) continued winning, pushing the winning streak to five, remaining undefeated at Anderson Softball Stadium behind two dominant pitching performances.
The Tar Heels found their rhythm against Princeton in game one courtesy of a Sanna diving catch in the top of the second inning. Shelby Barbee followed up the defensive web gem with a solo shot, her first of the season. Carolina gave starting pitcher Kenna Raye Dark some more cushion in the fifth when Alex Coleman had an RBI ground out to make it a 2-0 ball game.
Dark would need just one run however, the junior was lights out throwing her third complete game shutout of the season. She picked up a career-high 11 strikeouts in the seven-inning masterpiece.
In the day's final game against George Mason, Carolina's offense exploded once again. This time behind the stellar hitting of Sannaa Thompson, who opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-run home run to deep left-center field. Thompson stayed hot, picking up two more hits including an RBI double in a six-run fourth inning that was capped off with Barbee's second home run of the day.
Nikki Harris ended up getting the start and worked four innings of two-run ball with three strikeouts.
Dark came in the fifth to close the door on any comeback attempt and secure the fifth straight win of the past three days winning 10-2 after Lexie Roberts reached on an error to scored Grace Jackson to send everyone home for the night.
The Tar Heels have been utterly dominant in the circle since coming home. UNC pitchers have thrown 22 innings allowing just two earned runs and struck out 25 batters in the last two days. On top of that, dating back to the offensive outburst against Coastal Carolina, UNC has scored 52 runs in the past 49.5 hours.
The Tar Heels have another game tomorrow against Princeton at 1:30 on ACCNX.
