February 18, 2025 | Men's Basketball
• Carolina plays NC State for the 249th time overall and the 39th time in the Dean E. Smith Center on Wednesday, February 19 as both teams are coming into the game with wins over the weekend. ESPN will televise the game.
• The Tar Heels are 15-11, 8-6 in ACC play, while the Wolfpack is 10-15, 3-11 in conference action.
• Carolina went up to Syracuse and defeated the Orange, 88-82, on Saturday. Earlier that afternoon NC State snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 70-62 win in Raleigh over Boston College.
• The Tar Heels have won two of their last three games and return home for the first time since edging Pitt, 67-66, on February 8.
• UNC is 9-2 at home this season, including 5-1 in league play, with losses to Alabama and Stanford. The Pack is winless in seven starts on the road, six of which have come in ACC games.
• Carolina plays twice at home this week, following a stretch of five games that began at Pitt on January 28 in which the Tar Heels were on the road four times. The win in the JMA Dome snapped a four-game losing streak away from the Smith Center for the Tar Heels.
• Ian Jackson led UNC with 23 points and Jae'Lyn Withers scored 19, his high mark as a Tar Heel, in the six-point, wire-to-wire win over Syracuse. Jackson tied his season high with five three-pointers and produced his top scoring game since January 4.
• Withers' 19 points were the most since he scored 19 for Louisville against Georgia Tech on 2/1/2023.
• The Tar Heels tied their season high making 13 three-pointers, most since the first game of the season on November 4 vs. Elon. Jackson made five (which he also did at NC State), Withers made three (for the first time since Kansas on November 8) and RJ Davis, who had six assists, also made three.
• Davis has made multiple three-pointers in eight consecutive games, including five games when he made three.
• One game after getting out-scored by 24 points from three-point range at Clemson (which equaled the largest margin by an opponent this season), the Tar Heels out-scored the Orange by 27 from three (UNC made 13, SU made four).
• The 27-point margin in favor of the Tar Heels from three was their largest of the season. UNC made seven more threes in the loss against Michigan State (11-4) and in the victory over SMU (11-4).
• Elliot Cadeau played only 18 minutes due to foul trouble, but scored on a drive and layup with 40 seconds to play to give UNC an 84-80 lead.
CAROLINA-NC STATE
• Carolina is 167-81 all-time against NC State, including 82-23 in Chapel Hill.
• The Tar Heels are 31-7 against the Pack in the Smith Center and have won six in a row at home since an overtime loss in 2018.
• The Tar Heels are 39-7 vs. NC State in the last 22 seasons (33-5 under Roy Williams and 6-2 under Hubert Davis).
• Carolina's 167 wins vs. the Wolfpack are the most by UNC against any opponent.

UNC has led by five or fewer points three times (beat Georgia Tech and lost to Kansas and Stanford) and trailed by five or fewer points eight times (beat Dayton, UCLA, Notre Dame, Boston College and Pitt and lost at Louisville, at Wake Forest and at Pitt). The score was tied once (in the loss to Florida).
• The Tar Heels have played 10 one-possession games (decided by one, two or three points) this season. Those are the most played by the Tar Heels in a season in the three-point era, which began in 1986-87. The 2010-11 team played nine one-possession games and won eight.
• The 10 one-possession games don't include the overtime win against Boston College, which UNC won, 102-96. They also don't include Saturday's win at Syracuse, which UNC led by two points with less than a minute to play.

In the last 13 games, the opponents have shot more free throws eight times (UNC is 3-5 in those games). • The Tar Heels have shot more free throws in five of the last 13 games – wins over SMU, Cal, Boston College and Syracuse and a one-point loss to Stanford.
• Ian Jackson led UNC with 23 points at Syracuse. It was the first time Jackson was Carolina's top scorer since he had 20 against Cal on January 15. The Cal game marked the sixth time Jackson led UNC in scoring in a seven-game stretch.
• The Tar Heels are 6-2 this season when Jackson leads in scoring.
• Prior to Syracuse, RJ Davis had led UNC in scoring in each of the previous seven games. That was the second-longest stretch of his career as the Tar Heels' top scorer. He had an eight-game streak last season.
• Davis is 48 for 102 from the floor (47.1%) and 21 of 50 from three (42.0%) in the last eight games.
• Davis has made two or more three-pointers in eight straight games, including five times when he made three.
