CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – As one of North Carolina women's basketball's leaders on and off the court, graduate forward Alyssa Ustby has earned a spot on the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Women's 2024-25 Ann Meyers Award Midseason Watch List, announced on Monday.
The fifth-year Tar Heel has assisted Carolina in reaching 20-wins for the fastest time in a season since 2012-13 and currently leads the team with an average of 11.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Tallying double-figures in scoring in 16 games this season and nine double-doubles, Ustby has continued to add to her illustrious career in Chapel Hill.
In Atlantic Coast Conference action, Ustby is nearly averaging a double-double with 11.7 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. Currently, Ustby sits No. 17 all-time at Carolina in scoring with 1,710 career points and is on the verge of earning the crown as UNC's leading rebounder as she ranks No. 3 overall with 1,181 career boards.
At SMU, Ustby matched her career-high with 18 rebounds against the Mustangs to tie the most collected in a game in the Courtney Banghart era. The 18 rebounds were also the most by any ACC player in a single game this season.
The Tar Heels return to action on Sunday, heading to Clemson in hopes of remaining undefeated on the road. Tip against the Tigers is slated for 2 p.m. ET, streaming on ACCNX.
The Ann Meyers Drysdale Award is presented annually to the women's national player of the year by the USBWA. The award was first presented in the 1987-88 season and formally named in Meyers Drysdale's honor in the 2011-12 season. Ann Meyers Drysdale played at UCLA from 1974-78, which pre-dates the USBWA All-America selections. She was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999.
