Carolina shot 8-over-par 292 in the first round of the NCAA Urbana Men's Golf Regional Monday at the Atkins Golf Club in Urbana, Ill.
The Tar Heels are 11th in the 13-team field with two rounds to play. The top-five teams after Wednesday's third round advance to the NCAA Championship May 23 in Carlsbad, Calif.
Keaton Vo led UNC with an even-par 71. David Ford and Sihan Sandhu shot 73, Maxwell Ford had a 75 and Grant Roscich opened with an 86.
Illinois leads at 7-under 277. Texas Tech is second (-5), UNLV is third (-3), Troy is fourth (-1) and Marquette and Long Beach are tied for fifth at 1 over. Top-seeded Oklahoma State is in seventh place at 2 over.
Illinois's Jackson Buchanan is the individual leader after shooting 8-under 63. Vo is tied for 19th for the Tar Heels.
