North Carolina's David Ford is the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Month for April, the third time this season the Tar Heel senior has won the award.
Ford previously won Player-of-the-Month honors in October and March. He has won five tournaments this season, including three in a row this spring – one in late March (Valspar Collegiate Invitational) and two in April (Augusta Haskins Award Collegiate Invitational and Tar Heel Intercollegiate).
He tied for ninth in stroke play and went 3-0 in match play against Wake Forest, Florida State and Virginia last week in the ACC Championship.
Ford has won the ACC Player-of-the-Month award five times over the past three seasons. No other player in the ACC has won the award three times in a season in the last four years.
The Peachtree Corners, Ga., native averaged 68.78 strokes over nine rounds in April, shooting in the 60s six times. He won the Haskins at 12-under-par 204, was medalist at Finley Golf Club in UNC's home tournament at 7-under 203 and shot 4-under 212 in the ACC Championship.
The No. 1-ranked player in the NCAA and No. 1 player in the PGA TOUR University standings upped his career match play record as a Tar Heel to 10-4 with three wins in the ACC Championship.
Ford is the first Tar Heel ever to win three consecutive tournaments, has set the single-season UNC record with five wins and tied Dustin Bray for Carolina's all-time record with seven victories.
Ford has led Carolina to a No. 10 ranking in the country. The Tar Heels are the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Urbana (Ill.) Regional, which will be played May 12-14.
