Men's Golf Takes On Top Field In Stephens Cup
September 14, 2025 | Men's Golf
North Carolina returns to the Jackson T. Stephens Cup for the first time since winning the event in the fall of 2022.
Â
The Tar Heels are one of six men's teams in this year's tournament, which will be contested September 15-17 at Shoreacres in Lake Bluff, Mich.
Â
The Tar Heels are joined in the field by Arizona, LSU, Northwestern, SMU and Texas, along with individuals from several Historically Black Colleges and the service academies.
Â
Golf Channel will broadcast coverage on Monday from 5-8 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
Â
The teams will play two rounds of stroke play on Monday, another 18 holes on Tuesday and one round of match play on Wednesday.
Â
Carolina's lineup includes Niall Sheils Donegan, who will be playing in his first tournament as a Tar Heel, freshman Carson Bertagnole, sophomore Sihan Sandhu, graduate student Andrew Riley and senior Austin Vo.
Â
The Stephens Cup is UNC's second tournament on the fall schedule. Carolina was eighth in the season-opening Sahalee Players Championship in Sammamish, Wash.
Â
Sheils Donegan was competing for Team Great Britain & Ireland at the same time in the Walker Cup at Cypress Point, where he won two matches.
Â
This is the fifth Stephens Cup. Carolina defeated Florida State, 3-2, to win in 2022 at Seminole Golf Club. David Ford was the individual champion, shooting a career-62 in the second round in which he made eight consecutive birdies.
