WBB Elevates Lexi Weger To Assistant Coach
September 5, 2025 | Women's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After earning a promotion to video coordinator for North Carolina Women's Basketball this past spring, Lexi Weger has been elevated to an assistant coach as head coach Courtney Banghart announced on Friday.
"Promoting Lexi was an easy and unanimous decision for our staff. Her "figure it out" mindset, diligent and thoughtful eye for scouting, and ability to use film as an effective teaching tool have already made a significant impact," said Banghart. "Add to that, her relentless work ethic and reliability, and it's clear why she's earned this coveted role."
"Lexi brings an unwavering commitment to excellence and an eagerness to learn that continues to push me, and our program, forward. As a former player of mine, I'm especially proud — and grateful — to have her on staff."
After earning her undergraduate degree from Princeton in 2023, Weger joined the Tar Heels and spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant. The Hadley, Mass., native was an integral part of Carolina's video services, scouting as well as overseeing managers and practice players.
A four-time Ivy League champion at Princeton, Weger appeared in 57 games for the Tigers. As an undergrad, she interned with the NBA as an international commercial strategy & development intern and served as a digital production assistant with NBC Sports Group for the Tokyo Summer Olympics.
A Tar Heel alum, Weger recently earned her Masters in Sports Administration from Carolina.
"I am deeply humbled and honored to be named an assistant coach of the North Carolina's Women's Basketball program. Having served as graduate assistant and then video coordinator during these past two years I've experienced, firsthand, the level of commitment from everyone in this program to building on a legacy of excellence. I'm grateful for every opportunity that has come my way and am ready to be a part of pursuing bold milestones and reaching new heights," said Weger. "To step into my first assistant coaching role with this caliber of program is a privilege I do not take lightly. I want to thank Coach Banghart for her trust and mentorship. I look forward to working alongside the extraordinary coaches and staff and with this immensely talented team that is Carolina Basketball."Â
