Future Tar Heel Kate Harpring Named Naismith Trophy Girls' HS Player Of The Year Finalist

ATLANTA – The work of Class of 2026 signee Kate Harpring continues to be recognized as the future guard for North Carolina women's basketball has been named a Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Girls' High School Player of the Year Finalist, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. Harpring is one of five finalists from across the country to earn the honor.
Harpring was recently bestowed with the honor as a McDonald's All-American, the sixth signee in the Courtney Banghart era to earn the honor to play in the prestigious game.
Touted as the No. 1 player in the Class of 2026 by 247Sports, the 5-10 guard is prepared to make plenty of noise in Chapel Hill as she'll join the program for the 2026-27 campaign.
A senior at Marist Academy in Atlanta, Harpring recently surpassed the 3,000 career-point mark in the final year of her prep career.
As a junior, Harpring came away with the trophy for the 2024-26 Gatorade Georgia Girls Basketball Player of the Year after averaging a double-double off 32 points and 10 rebounds per game.
Harpring is also set to represent the United States at the 2026 Nike Hoop Summit in April in Portland, Oregon.
