Jodi Schneider joined the UNC Sports Medicine staff in September of 2020. She serves as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Tar Heel women's basketball team and also works as part of the UNC Campus Health staff.
Schneider came to Chapel Hill after nine years at Princeton, where she worked with the women's basketball team and the men's and women's cross country teams.
"I couldn't be more excited for our program as a whole, and our student-athletes in particular, to be adding Jodi to our team," said coach Courtney Banghart. "I worked with Jodi for many years at Princeton. She has so much experience, and the trust and adoration she earned from our student-athletes was impactful to witness and was critical to their physical, mental, and emotional health. She is an elite communicator, a thoughtful listener, and a skilled clinician. Her work will ensure that our student-athletes are at their best and that our sports performance team works in synergy for our program's continued growth."
Schneider is a 2005 graduate of Michigan State, where she majored in kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training. She earned a master's degree in human physiology and sports medicine from the University of Oregon in 2007.
While at working toward her degree at Oregon, Schneider served as the head athletic trainer at Thurston High School in Springfield, Ore., for a year before joining the Ducks' athletic training staff as a graduate assistant for football for the 2006-07 school year.
She worked at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo., in 2007-08 before returning to Michigan State for one year as an intern athletic trainer for the Spartans' rowing teams. Schneider worked at Maine with the softball and football teams from 2009-11 before moving to Princeton.
Schneider taught at Oregon, Michigan State and Maine, and she holds certifications in CPR and first aid as well as the SASTM soft tissue technique. A certified athletic trainer since 2006, she has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association since 2001.
"I am thrilled at this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the UNC sports medicine staff," Schneider said. "Not only is this a department with such a storied history of success, but also unparalleled commitment and investment in student-athletes' wellness and performance. I could also not be more excited for the chance to again work with Courtney Banghart as she leads the Tar Heels. I was fortunate during our shared time at Princeton to work with and develop a relationship with Courtney, as she not only demands the best of herself, she passionately cultivates the same drive as a steward of her staff and program and is unwavering in her commitment to her players.
"I am humbled by her trust and support. The women's basketball team here in Chapel Hill is bound for greatness and I cannot wait to become a part of this family. I know I am joining a university, staff, and team that will continue to grow and thrive under the leadership of so many, and I am beyond fortunate and excited."
