ATLANTA (AP) - Niesha Butler scored 29 points and Danielle Donehew added 27 as Georgia Tech ended a 13-game losing streak against North Carolina, beating the seventh-ranked Tar Heels 91-84 Sunday.
The Yellow Jackets' first win over North Carolina since 1993 did not come easily. Kenya Williams made an inside basket to put Georgia Tech ahead 87-84 before North Carolina's Nikki Teasley missed a short jump shot with 20 seconds to play.
The final buzzer sounded right after Butler, who had picked up her fourth foul at the 8:57 mark, made a 3-pointer.
Tech (11-8, 4-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) was ahead 75-65 with 9:14 to play but did not score another field goal until the 5:00 mark when Butler made a running jumper to put the Jackets ahead 79-78.
The scoring drought allowed the Tar Heels (19-4, 6-3) to go ahead 78-77 on Chanel Wright's rebound basket of her own missed shot, North Carolina's their first lead since the 4:58 mark of the first half.
The teams traded baskets before Butler put Tech ahead 83-80 on a pair of free throws.
Donehew was 7-for-13 on 3-pointers, and Regina Tate led the Yellow Jackets with 14 rebounds.
Teasley scored 18 points for North Carolina, which has lost consecutive conference games. Yanick Clay added 14.
