Men's Golf Tied for Fifth at NCAA East Regional

BARRINGTON, R.I. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team stands tied for fifth place with a nine-over-par team total of 293 after the first round of play at the NCAA East Regional. Georgia Tech leads the 23-team field with a total of 283, followed by South Carolina at 286, Clemson at 291 and Mississippi at 292. Duke and Georgia State are tied with UNC at 293. The top 11 teams after three rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships June 2-5.
North Carolina sophomore Rob Simmons is tied for sixth place after shooting an even-par 71. Senior Don Hill fired a two-over-par 73 and is tied for 28th. Junior Max Harris turned in a 74 (T41), while Paul Daniel followed with a 75 (T54). Junior Brad Hyler shot a 77 (T85).
The 54-hole event continues through Saturday and is being played at the Rhode Island Country Club, which features a par 71, 6,794-yard layout.
