Tar Heels Finish Seventh at Puerto Rico Golf Classic

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The University of North Carolina men's golf team finished in seventh place at the Puerto Rico Golf Classic with an 873 total. Clemson topped the 18-team field firing a 34-under-par 830 total. Georgia Tech finished four shots back in second place at 834. Georgia and East Tennessee State tied for third place with 858 totals while N.C. State finished 5th at 860 and Texas placed sixth at 870. The final round was played at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course which features a par 72, 6,945-yard layout.
John Engler of Clemson and David Christensen of East Tennessee State both fired 11-under-par 205 totals and tied for individual medalist honors. Carl Pettersson of N.C. State and David Gossett of Texas finished two shots back in a tie for third place at nine-under 207. Georgia Tech's Kris Mikkelsen finished in fifth place with a 208 total while teammate Carlton Forrester finished sixth at 209 and another Yellow Jacket, Bryce Molder, finished seventh at 210.
Max Harris was the low Tar Heel firing a two-under 70 in the final round for a three-under 213 total. Paul Daniel tied for 32th place with a 221 total while Brad Hyler and Rob Simmons tied for 43rd place at 224 and Don Hill tied for 50th with a 225 total.
Carolina's next action comes March 8-9 when the Tar Heels travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to play in the Seminole Classic.
