UNC Men's Golf Tied For Third In NCAA East Regional

MOOSIC, Pa.- The University of North Carolina men's golf team is tied for third place in the darkness-delayed second round of the NCAA East Regional Championship in Moosic, PA. The Tar Heels were able to complete second round play on Friday before play was postponed due to darkness. Virginia Commonwealth, Tennessee and first-day leader East Tennessee State were unable to finish the second round and will complete the round Saturday morning. The third round will start afterward.
Carl Petterson of N.C. State leads for the second consecutive day with a two-round total of 138, 4-under-par. Virginia's James Driscoll is three shots back at 141, and Jonathan Byrd of Clemson is in third place with an even-par score of 142. Two players are five shots back at 143 - Georgia's Michael Morrison and Clemson's Lucas Glover.
The Tar Heels are led by senior Max Harris who shot a 73 on Friday to give him a four-over-par, two-day total of 146 which ties Harris for ninth place. Rob Simmons carries a 149 total into Saturday's round after a second round 73, Whitten Meares has a 151 after a 76 on Friday, Paul Daniel has a 153 after a Friday 76 and Brad Hyler shot an even-par 71 to bring his two-day total to 154.
The 54-hole event wraps up Saturday and is being played at the Glenmaura National Golf Club, which features a par 71, 6,847-yard layout. The top 11 teams and two individuals (not on one of those 11 teams) advance on to the NCAA Championship to be played May 31-June 3 at Grand National Golf Course in Opelika, Ala.
