Carolina Volleyball Sweeps Appalachian State

CHAPEL HILL - The University of North Carolina volleyball team defeated Appalachian State University 3-0 (15-4, 15-8, 16-14) and are now 7-1 for the season. The Tar Heels were led by sophomore outside hitter Laura Greene who registered a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Freshman Katherine Dean led Appalachian State with eight kills and five digs and setter Tiffany White posted 23 assists.
In game one, UNC led from the beginning allowing only four total points by the Mountaineers. Setter Eve Rackham provided 12 assists and one kill and Greene posted three kills and four digs.
Game two saw the Tar Heels on an early run with Malaika Underwood tallying two service aces to take Carolina to 8-3. The Mountaineers went on a 3-0 run before the Tar Heels resumed control of the game. Underwood hammered one of her three kills to seal the victory. UNC finished game two 15-8.
In game three, Carolina took an early lead. With Greene serving and a score of 6-2, the Heels delivered four unanswered points. The score was 10-2 when Appalachian State rallied back with a 5-0 run and eventually tied UNC at 14-14. The Tar Heels persevered and defeated the Mountaineers 16-14.
Carolina volleyball will play its next match at home as they host the Carolina/ Nike Classic, Sept. 15-16. They will compete against Louisville on Friday and Delaware and Santa Clara(21) on Saturday.
