
Carolina Volleyball Sweeps Louisville at Carolina/Nike Classic

CHAPEL HILL - The University of North Carolina volleyball team swept Louisville 3-0(15-12, 17-15, 15-11) Saturday night (Sept. 15) at the Carolina/Nike Classic. The Tar Heels are now 8-1 and Coach Joe Sagula can boast his 400th career win. Coach Sagula is in his 11th season at Carolina and his 20th year of coaching.
Senior Casey Simpson led the Tar Heels with 18 kills and 11 digs while sophomore Laura Greene tallied 17 kills and 13 digs. Including Simpson and Greene, Carolina had four players tally double digits in digs. Seniors Liz Feldman and Lisa Fryer contributed 16 and 12 digs respectively. Setter Eve Rackham tallied 49 assists and seven digs and three blocks.
In game one, Carolina jumped out to an early lead led by Greene who posted 6 kills. The Cardinals rallied back to within three. Outside hitter Malaika Underwood posted the game-winning kills 15-12.
In game two, Feldman served the first five points as the Heels jumped out to an early 9-2 lead. The teams battled back and forth and the Cardinals went on a 10-0 run. The score was tied at 15-15. Freshman Nicole Reis blasted the game winning kill for a 17-15 victory.
In game three, UNC once again took the lead, but Louisville kept the score close. Simpson and Greene posted six kills each and Feldman recorded eight digs. The Cardinals struggled towards the end and Carolina maintained their lead to take the game 15-11.
The Cardinals were led by Sonja Percan who recorded 15 kills and three digs. Emily Roberson posted 17 digs and 14 assists.
In other action today, Santa Clara defeated Delaware 3-0 (15-4, 15-13, 15-1).
Carolina will face Delaware on Saturday (Sept.16) at 1:00 p.m. and 21st ranked Santa Clara in the final match tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m.
