Carolina Golfer Bray Leads Medal Play At Dixie Amateur

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Dustin Bray, a sophomore on Carolina's golf team, fired a three-round total of eight-under-par 206 to fly by the rest of the field in the Dixie Amateur by five shots. Bray, from Asheboro, N.C., scored a blistering 65 in the third round which bolstered him from third place to capture medalist honors in medal play. Bray's 65 was the low qualifying round of the tournament. After the third round, the field was cut to the top 16 players who begin match play today at Palm Aire Country Club in Pompano Beach, Fla.
Chan Wongluekiet finished medal play five stokes behind Bray with a 211 total. Brian Nosler and Casey Yates both carded 213 totals while a trio of players -- Jordan Dempsey, Nicholas Thompson and Steve Sokol -- were deadlocked with 214 totals.
Two rounds of match play will take place today and two rounds will be played tomorrow. Dustin Bray will play Alex Hamilton in the first round of match play. That match starts at 7:00 a.m. today. All of match play will be played on the Oaks Course at Palm Aire Country Club while medal play took place on both the Oaks and Cypress Courses.
ray concluded Carolina*s fall season in similar fashion. In the Heels' final tournament of the fall campagin, he tied for first place at The Prestige in Palm Desert, Calif., after firing rounds of 65-71-67 for a 13-under 203 total. Bray posted a 71.00 scoring average this fall.
