DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Sheana Mosch scored nine of Duke's last 13 points to rally the fourth-ranked Blue Devils over North Carolina 72-67 Monday night.
With Duke trailing 63-59 and 2:17 left, Mosch made a pair of 3-pointers 50 seconds apart, scoring eight consecutive points to finish with a team-high 19.
Mosch's last basket - with 35 seconds to play - gave Duke (23-3, 13-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) the lead for good at 67-65. She then forced a turnover and Duke made five of six free throws in the last 13.7 seconds.
North Carolina (14-13, 7-9) got its final points on a layup by Coretta Brown with eight seconds left, trimming Duke's lead to 69-67.
Freshman Alana Beard had 15 points and Michele Matyasovsky added 13 for the lue Devils. Georgia Schweitzer had 12.
Candace Sutton had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Tar Heels, who lost their third straight. LaQuanda Barksdale had 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Brown scored 18 points and Juana Brown 10 for the Tar Heels.
Duke made seven of its first eight shots to open the game, but missed 21 of its next 29 before halftime. The Blue Devils shot 40.3 percent, while the Tar Heels shot 38.8 percent.
North Carolina led 31-22 at the 7:33 mark in the first half before Beard keyed a 14-2 Duke spurt with consecutive steals and nine straight Duke points. The Blue Devils led 36-35 at halftime.
The Tar Heels made three of four 3-point tries in the first 5 1/2 minutes of the second half to push ahead 45-39. North Carolina stayed in front until Matyasovsky hit consecutive jumpers that tied the game at 57.
After that, neither team lead by more than four points until the final seconds.
UNC notes:
* Freshman center Candace Sutton tied a career high with her 19-point night. (She also scored 19 points in the season's first matchup with Duke). Monday's game marks the first time this season that she has led Carolina in scoring.
* Senior forward LaQuanda Barksdale turned in her 17th double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. It was the 37th of her career. Sutton's double-double (19 points, 10 rebounds) was the second of her career.
* As the seventh seed in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, UNC will begin play Friday at 6 p.m.against eighth-seeded Georgia Tech.
