UNC's Sutton Earns ACC Women's Basketball Honor

Freshman center Candace Sutton has earned ACC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week honors following two strong performances over the last five days. In the Tar Heels' wins against Georgia Tech on Feb. 1 and Wake Forest on Feb. 4, Sutton averaged 16.0 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting 56.5 percent from the field. Against the Demon Deacons, Sutton grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds to tally the first double-double of her career.
The ACC honor is Sutton's first of the season. This week's ACC Player of the Week honor went to NC State guard Tynesha Lewis.
Sutton, a 6-foot-6 player from Kettering, Md., has scored in double figures in the last six games and now averages 8.8 points and 5.2 rebounds on the season. Her rebounding average ranks second on the team.She leads the team and the ACC in blocks with 32, 1.6 per game.
UNC (12-9, 6-5 ACC) is back in action on Thursday, hosting Clemson at Carmichael Auditorium. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
