NC State Grabs Second Round Lead At The Intercollegiate

Chapel Hill, N.C. -- North Carolina State took a one stroke lead in the second round of The Intercollegiate Golf Tournament with a four-under-par 284, combined with an opening-round 283 for a two-round total of 567. Wake Forest and North Carolina also shot an opening-round score of 283, but the Deacons shot a three-under-par 285 in the second round while the Tar Heels shot a two-under-par 286. Duke, the first-round leader by a stroke with a 282, shot a one-under-par 287 to tie North Carolina for third place.
In the individual race David Sanchez of North Carolina State has a four-stroke lead after shooting a three-under-par opening-round score of 69, followed by a second-round-leading 66. His two-round score of 135 places him at nine-under for the day. Tied for second after two rounds with a five-under-par total of 135 are Bill Haas of Wake Forest, who shot a 69 and 70 in his two rounds, Matt Zions of Colorado, with a 72 and 67, and Garth Mulroy of North Carolina State, who shot 68 and 71.
Dustin Bray was the highest Tar Heel golfer, tied for tenth place with Kane Webber of Colorado, with a two-under-par 142. Bray followed his opening-round 70 with an even par 72 second round. Ramon Bescansa is one stroke behind Bray and Webber, tied for twelfth place after shooting one-under-par in the opening round and an even-par 72 in the second round for a two-round total of 143. Tar Heels Johno Harris and Jeremy Elliott are both at an even-par 144 after two rounds, tied for fifteenth place. Harris bettered his one-over-par 73 with a one-under-par second-round score of 71. Elliott shot a 69 in the first round but then shot a 75 in the second round. Rob Simmons is tied for 32nd place with a three-over-par 147.
The final round with begin on Sunday with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m. The tournament is being played at Finley Golf Course, which features a par-72, 7,027-yard layout. Admission is free and the public is welcomed to attend.
