Tar Heels Make Move At Regional

STILLWATER, OKLA. - North Carolina's men's golf team is tied for ninth place after the second round of the NCAA Central Regional here. The Tar Heels carded an eight-over-par 296 and are trailing second round leader College of Charleston by 17 strokes. The University of Oklahoma finished the day in second place at 584 while Kent State held on to third spot carding a team total 585. Rounding out the top five is Minnesota and Texas A&M who both shot second round totals of 589 placing them eleven strokes off the lead.
Martin Flores of Oklahoma leads all individuals after firing his second consecutive 70 totaling 140. Jon Mills and Sean Howell of Kent State, along with John Klauk of Texas are locked in a second place tie having scored a two-day total of 141.
All-ACC performer Dustin Bray continued to lead the Tar Heels as he carded another one-over 73 and is tied now tied for 18th place. Johno Harris and Rob Simmons are both tied for 40th position with a two-day total of 149 while Ramon Bescansa posted a second round 75 for a 151. Jeremy Elliott shot a 79 and is tied for 120th giving him a two-day total of 159.
The 54-hole event continues through Saturday and is being played at Karsten Creek Golf Course which features a par 72, 7,027-yard layout. The top 10 teams and top two individuals (not on those 10 teams) advance on to the NCAA Championship to be played May 30-June 2 at Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C.
