Two Carolina Golfers To Play In All-America Golf Classic

El Paso, Texas - Two University of North Carolina golfers, Ramon Bescansa and Dustin Bray, have been selected to play in this year's prestigious Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic. Twenty-four of the nation's elite college golfers will compete in the 28th annual tournament to be played Nov. 25-26 in El Paso, Texas. A Titleist Long Drive Contest and Ping Putting Contest will take place, along with the practice round, on Nov. 24.
escansa, a senior from Santiago, Spain, was named Honorable Mention All-America last year. He carded four top-20 finishes last spring. He was the runner-up at The Intercollegiate after firing an eight-under-par 64 in the second round, breaking the course record at Finley Golf Course and tying the lowest round ever scored by a Carolina golfer. He tied for 13th place at last year's NCAA Championship and tied for third place at The International Collegiate played in St. Andrews, Scotland, earlier this fall.
ray, a junior from Asheboro, N.C., was a semifinalist at the 2002 U.S. Amateur. A second-team All-America and two-time All-ACC honoree, Bray captured last year's ACC Championship firing an 11-under-par 205 total. Bray has four collegiate wins to his credit. In addition to winning the 2002 ACC Championship, he tied for individual medalist honors at The Prestige in the fall of 2001 and won The International Collegiate and tied for first place at The Ridges Intercollegiate, both played in the fall of 2002. Bray carded five top-five and eight top-10 performances last year. He tied for 17th place at last year's NCAA Championship. In addition to his superb showing at the U.S. Amateur last summer, Bray won the 2002 Cardinal Amateur and competed in the USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Matches.
"We are excited for Dustin and Ramon as we know they are looking forward to playing in this great event," said Tar Heel Head Coach John Inman. "They have both shown they are among the best college players in the country and the field at this tournament will prove that."
rad Heaven of the University of Toledo is the defending champion of the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic and he will attempt to defend his title this year.
