Bray, Bescansa Finish Sixth At Western Refining Classic

EL PASO, Texas - Two representatives of the University of North Carolina golf team finished tied for sixth at the 28th Annual Western Refining College All-America Gold Classic held the past two days in El Paso, Texas. Twenty-four of the nation's top collegiate golfers competed at the event, held at the par-71, 6,781-yard El Paso Country Club.
Tar Heel senior Ramon Bescansa and junior Dustin Bray both shot 217 in the three-round event, four strokes over par and nine behind the event champion, TCU senior Adam Rubinson - who was the only golfer to finish under par at the event.
Bray opened play with a 73 in the first round, followed by a two-under 69 in the second to sit in third-place after the first day of competition. The Asheboro, N.C., native closed the tournament with a final round 75. Bescansa, from Santiago, Spain, opened play with a 75 in the first round and a 70 in the second to hold seventh place going into the final day. He wrapped up the competition shooting 72 in the third round.

8. Brad Heaven (Toledo) 73-75-70=218 +5
8. Justin Walters (North Carolina State) 74-75-69=218 +5
Toledo's Brad Heaven was the defending champion of the event.
