Tar Heel Golf Teams In National Polls

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's and women's golf teams are both ranked in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Collegiate Golf Rankings. The men's team is ranked fifth after posting two top-three finishes this fall. Carolina was the runner-up at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges and placed third at The International Collegiate played in St. Andrews, Scotland. Clemson is the top-ranked team followed by UNLV, Wake Forest and Florida. The men's team is also ranked 12th in the most recent Golf World poll.
Carolna's women's team is ranked 16th in the Golfweek/Sagarin Collegiate Golf Rankings. Just this week, the Tar Heels won the Pine Needles Intercollegiate and have posted three additional top-five finishes this fall. Carolina carded fourth-place finishes at the Mercedes-Benz Championship and the Lady Paladin Invitational and finished fifth at the Franklin Street Trust Tar Heel Invitational. Arizona sits atop the women's poll followed by Oklahoma State, Auburn, Vanderbilt and Duke.
The Tar Heel men's team has two players ranked in the individual Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings. Junior Dustin Bray is ranked fourth and freshman Kevin Silva is ranked 47th. Bray, from Asheboro, N.C., advanced to the semi-finals of this year's U.S. Amateur and won two tournaments this fall. He captured the individual championship at The International Collegiate and tied for first place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges. In Carolina's other fall event, Bray tied for eighth place at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. He is the highest ranked Atlantic Coast Conference player.
Silva, from New Bedford, Mass., saw action in Carolina's last two fall tournaments, tying for 16th place at the Carpet Capital Collegiate and finishing 17th at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges.
Ashley Prange is ranked 10th in the women's individual Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings and is the highest ranked ACC player in that poll. Prange, a senior from Noblesville, Ind., captured the first victory of her collegiate career this fall at the Mercedes-Benz Championship. She carded top-10 finishes in Carolina's other four fall tournaments. Prange was the runner-up at the Pine Needes Intercollegiate, tied for third place at the Lady Paladin Invitational, tied for fourth place at the ACC/SEC Challenge and tied for ninth at the Franklin Street Trust Tar Heel Invitational.
oth the men's and women's golf teams have concluded their fall seasons. The men's team next action will be Feb. 17-18 at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The women open their spring season Mar. 14-16 at the Lady Gamecock Classic in Columbia, S.C.
