Brown Comes Up Golden In Tar Heels' 85-58 Win Over Harvard

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Coretta Brown scored a career-high 28 points, 21 in the first half, as North Carolina beat Harvard 85-58 Saturday in the Midwest Regional.
Jennifer Thomas scored seven of her 18 points in a 13-0 run as North Carolina (25-8) pulled away early in the second half. Nikita Bell closed the spurt with a free throw that gave fourth-seeded North Carolina a 59-34 lead with 14:43 left.
North Carolina will play Minnesota in a second-round game on Monday.
Harvard never got closer than 61-39 after a 3-pointer by Hana Peljto with 12:49 to go.
Candace Sutton added 13 points as North Carolina ended 13th-seeded Harvard's winning streak at 13. Harvard (22-6) was led by Raka Cserny, who had 16 points, and Peljto, who scored 13.
Brown made 5 of 8 shots from 3-point range in the first half, helping North Carolina to a 42-24 lead at the break. She finished 9-for-16, 5-for-9 beyond the arc, and 5-of-6 at the free-throw line.
The rest of the Tar Heels made 22 of 55 (40 percent) shots from the floor, but held Harvard to 20-for-60 shooting (33.3 percent) and dominated the boards 55-38.
Harvard led 14-13 on 5-for-11 shooting, but the Crimson made just one of their next eight tries and was 8-for-25 from the floor at halftime.
