Carolina Golfer Dustin Bray To Play In U.S.-Japan Matches

Columbus, Ohio - University of North Carolina golfer Dustin Bray, a sophomore from Asheboro, N.C., is one of 12 collegiate golfers chosen to represent the United States in the 2002 USA vs. Japan Matches announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The American team consists of eight men and four women collegiate golfers and the competition will take place July 17-19 at The Glen Club in Glenview, Ill.
ray, this year's ACC champion and an All-ACC performer, has captured two victories this year. In addition to winning the ACC Championship, he tied for individual medalist honors at The Prestige in Palm Desert, Calif., the Tar Heels' final event of the fall campaign. He has carded five top five and eight top 10 performances this year and tallies a 71.00 stroke average this spring.
The men respresentatives chosen for this year's squad, including one from Division II and one from Division III, are Dustin Bray from North Carolina, Bryan Clarke from West Florida, Clint Colbert from Savannah College of Art & Design, Gregg Jones from Clemson, Brock Mackenzie from Washington, Kris Mikkelson from Georgia Tech, Chris Nallen from Arizona and Brandt Snedeker from Vanderbilt. The women selected include Christi Cano from Oklahoma State, Danielle Downey from Auburn, Kelli Kamimura from Washington and Kristy McPherson from South Carolina.
The U.S. holds a 19-6 advantage in the event, which is coordinated annually by the Japan Student Golf Association. The 2002 matches mark only the fifth time a United States course has played host. Previous host courses include Pebble Beach Golf Links (1978, 1983, 1987) and the SCGA Members Club (2000).
